Goodbye.revoir.vale.addio

The night before we departed from Australia we decided to have a going away party. A sensible person would have got an early night sleep to prepare for the big trip, but being the irresponsible young person I am I decided I’ll cross that hang over when I come to it! The night was full of copious amounts of drinking, dancing and many laughs with old friends. It was sad to say goodbye to people you love seeing on a daily basis, but refreshing to know when you come home they’ll be waiting.
As expected I woke up with a throbbing headache and bad skin. It was six a.m and I still hadn’t finished packing, so there I was running around trying to think what to pack for the next two years of my life (it’s not as easy as it sounds). My mum was chasing after me in panic mode, trying to shove the last bit of advice into me before she no longer could. Her exact words were ‘Elisha make sure you pack thermals!’ It was such an odd feeling of mixed emotions, I was sad to leave my family but excited to see what the big bad world had in store for me. Surely enough I finally was ready to depart my family home of ten years to start my big adventure. The car ride wasn’t exactly pleasant, I am very close with my mum and instead of dealing with our feelings of how much we were going to miss each other we decided to fight (because that’s what my family do). We had both over reacted about me taking one of her favourite cardigans but the truth was she just didn’t want me to leave.

These are some of my family memorys

“I have learned that if you must leave a place that you have lived in and loved and where all your yesteryears are buried deep, leave it any way except a slow way, leave it the fastest way you can. Never turn back and never believe that an hour you remember is a better hour because it is dead. Passed years seem safe ones, vanquished ones, while the future lives in a cloud, formidable from a distance.”
Beryl Markham, West with the Night
